Sunday’s “Real Housewives of Atlanta” took us behind the scenes of Kenya Moore’s marriage struggles with Marc Daly.
Kandi Burruss was just leaving her surrogate’s sonogram appointment when she got a text from Kenya saying she really needed to talk to her. Kandi drove over.
Kenya told Kandi things with Marc weren’t good. She explained he started to get “freaked out” when her belly started to grow while she was pregnant and that their sex life had gone downhill ever since.
Kandi was confused, noting they had just gone on an anniversary trip, but Kenya revealed she went to Turks and Caicos with just the baby. Kenya said they couldn’t reach an agreement about whether or not their nanny would go, which is the same problem she was having in regard to his upcoming birthday trip. According to Kenya, Marc didn’t want the nanny to go, which would mean no alone time for them as a couple.
Kenya got emotional as she explained Marc was an incredibly doting father but not so much a doting husband. She said she felt forgotten a lot of the time. When Kandi asked, “Why don’t you try to tell him how you feel?” Kenya broke down.
“I do try, Kandi. It’s not just that,” she said tearfully. “It’s just been hard because sometimes it just escalates into an argument. I feel like when you argue, there’s lines you don’t cross.”
“Do you feel like he’s crossed lines?” Kandi asked.
“Yeah,” Kenya replied. “He’ll admit to that. We talked about those things. And he says, ‘Yeah, I admit I am a fighter. I like to fight.’ But there are issues, underlying issues, in our marriage that we’re not dealing with. It’s like you’ll be fighting about the glass on the table, but that’s not really what you’re fighting about. You’re fighting about something that happened last week, and you just didn’t talk about it. I feel a lot of that is going on. The communication is not where it should be with us, and then I just feel a lot of times stuck because I don’t want a conversation to elevate to a full-on argument and being yelled at or something because it’s like he doesn’t compromise.”
“When he gets mad, it’s like an alter-ego that comes in from the depths of hell,” she later added, telling Kandi that the situation was “serious.”
“We do love each other, but things get nasty sometimes, and I don’t want that. And I don’t want it for Brooklyn,” she sobbed. “I’ve waited my whole life for her. I was that little girl that was never protected, and I wanna protect her.”
Kenya later told the camera that Marc was “more careful with the way he voiced his opinion, even when he was upset,” in the beginning of their relationship. “But now, it’s no holds barred.”
When an off-camera producer asked, “How does he speak to you and what is his tone like?” Kenya shook her head and replied, “I cannot say that. I cannot revisit that.”
