Sarah Hyland Shares Message For ‘Fellow Invisible Illness Warriors’

Sarah Hyland is opening up about her physical insecurities she struggles with while living with a chronic illness.

On Saturday, the “Modern Family” star, who was born with kidney dysplasia, shared an inspiring message to her “fellow invisible illness warriors.”

Captioning a paparazzi shot in a sports bra and leggings, Hyland wrote, “It’s ok to be insecure about your body. Just remember to check in with yourself at least once a day and say thank you.”

“Our bodies have endured unfathomable feats that our minds barely have time to comprehend what has actually happened,” she added. “With inflammation, excess water gain, and medications, my skin has a hard time bouncing back.”

Hyland concluded, “I saw this picture and HATED it but quickly readjusted my attitude and decided to celebrate it. Love yourself and be patient. We are all stronger than we think we are.”

The SAG award winner has been open with her ongoing health battle with kidney dysplasia — a condition where the kidneys don’t develop normally while in the womb — but over the past few years she was also diagnosed with endometriosis and suffered from an abdominal hernia.

Hyland has admitted to wearing multiple Spanx at previous public events due to being self-conscious about her figure after undergoing more than a dozen surgeries (16 total), including two kidney transplants.

However, thanks to her “ever changing self confidence,” Hyland is ready for the spotlight again.

For her Teen Choice Awards appearance in August, Hyland chose to forego the Spanx accessory. She even embraced her figure by sharing a photo from the event, below, that shows what she dubbed her “kidney upper p—y area” and she absolutely owned it.
