Dolly Parton Dishes on How the Real Life Jolene Looks Like Now

Dolly Parton said she doesn’t have to worry about Jolene snatching away her husband anymore, as she once famously wrote about in her song “Jolene.”

During an appearance on Wednesday’s “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” the music superstar told the origin behind the country classic, saying, “the real story was about my husband,” and how, back in the day, he hung around Jolene’s workplace too often for Dolly’s comfort.

“This woman I tell the story about, this girl that worked at the bank when we first got married, this beautiful redhead. And he’s spending more time at the bank than we had money,” she quipped. “And I thought, ‘Well that ain’t gonna work out too good.'”

But it appears Jolene isn’t as much of a head-turner anymore, as Dolly recently had a run-in with her.

“Just so you know, I did see Jolene not long ago,” she leaned in to tell host Jimmy Fallon. “She’s not so hot now,” Dolly confessed as the host and audience burst into laughter.

“She used to have that beautiful red hair and now she’s gray. She used to have a little tight butt. Now, it’s a tight spot getting her butt through that door now. She used to wear a D-cup — now she’s wearing Depends,” Dolly cracked, sending Jimmy howling.

Dolly was on the show to promote her new Netflix anthology series “Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings,” which contains eight episodes revolving around the story lines in eight of her songs.

One such episode has Kathleen Turner playing a clairvoyant, which prompted Dolly to admit psychic abilities run in her family. Jimmy asked if Dolly would read his palm, which she said she would give a try.

“Well, I see that you’re gonna be very successful with a late-night talk show,” she joked after grabbing his hand. “That you have a very long… career ahead of you.”

“What’s that?” she added. “I think there’s a melted M&M in there,” Dolly quipped before licking Fallon’s hand, sending the host and audience into a laughing frenzy once again.

“Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings” is available to stream on Netflix now.
