Even Celine Dion thinks Jack could have fit on the floating door with Rose in “Titanic.”
While appearing on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” Friday night, the singer, who famously recorded the film’s Oscar-winning song “My Heart Will Go On, weighed in on the 1997 movie’s long-debated ending, which has been questioned by fans for years.
Could Leonardo DiCaprio’s character Jack have squeezed in on the life-saving door with Rose (Kate Winslet) instead of dying in the freezing water? According to Dion, it was definitely a possibility.
“Celine, I always try to ask you a good ‘Titanic’ question every time you’re here because I know you probably love those,” Fallon asked Dion, who stopped by the late-night show to promote her new album, “Courage.”
“You know that’s a long time ago, right?” she joked.
When asked by Fallon if “Rose just scooted over a little bit” could Jack have lived, Dion first replied, “Don’t put me in trouble. What if they want to do a ‘Titanic’ number two?”
As Fallon showed a still from the film, the five-time Grammy winner then gave her two-cents.
“First of all, if you look closely [at] the picture, Rose is maybe dead or totally frozen, and she’s not quite all there, okay?” she said. “Second of all, he doesn’t need an invitation. Come on, baby! Make himself comfortable. Jump in. You know?”
“And then who did not think about this guy who is in the middle of the frozen ocean and that maybe all his body is so frozen that he didn’t have the strength to –” she continued and then burst into a version of The Pointer Sisters’ song “Jump For My Love” with Fallon.
Dion’s opinion is a nice addition to the large question that will probably be debated for many more years to come.
Back in the summer, DiCaprio weighed in on the door controversy himself while promoting “Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood,” which he starred alongside Margot Robbie and Brad Pitt.
When asked the question, Robbie answered first and said, “Oh my gosh, I thought it. I remember bawling my eyes out when I was a girl.”
“I have no comment,” DiCaprio replied with a laugh.
When Pitt was directly asked, he replied, “Well I’m going to go back and look now, shoot.”
“That is the biggest controversy in modern cinema,” Robbie pointed out and DiCaprio added, “Ever.”
It was then Pitt and Robbie who started to tease DiCaprio about the question and tried to squeeze out an answer.
“Could you, could you have squeezed in there? You could’ve, couldn’t you?” Pitt said. “No comment,” DiCaprio replied.
We have a feeling this question forever will go on… and on.
