He may not have been born here — but he has just as much respect for the US military as any citizen… if not more.
Reza Farahan says he worships veterans who defended the country that allow him to be an openly gay man.
“Mad love for all of the veterans out there, because I was born in a country where I would be persecuted for being who I am,” he said in LA on Monday. “So I have mad love for everyone who serves this country that allows me to be who I am.”
On Veteran’s Day, the “Shahs of Sunset” star posted a picture of his beloved father-in-law Philip Neely, a retired Air Force Colonel.
“I want to say a heartfelt thank you to all of our veterans, I TRULY APPRECIATE ALL OF YOU!!!” he wrote.
“It’s because of all of you AMAZING people, that we get to live in the greatest country on earth. I especially appreciate all of you, because I am blessed to be a naturalized citizen, born in a country where people are persecuted daily for being who they are.”
Farahan was born in Tehran, Iran, where homosexuality is considered a sin against Islam. After the Iranian Revolution of 1979, an estimated 7,000 people were executed because of their sexuality.
The reality star accepted that while some people might take holidays like Veteran’s Day for granted, he certainly does not.
“I kiss the ground that I get to walk on here and it’s because of veterans and if they didn’t do the thing that and other people won’t or can’t do, we wouldn’t get to be free and live in the greatest country on earth,” he said. ” So mad props to all the veterans out there.”
