Chrissy Teigen tried to hilariously defend husband John Legend’s 2019 Sexiest Man Alive title, but inadvertently got schooled by Idris Elba.
After Legend was granted the annual honor by People magazine, the musician played it off in his self-deprecating way by admitting he was flummoxed to be following in the footsteps of British heartthrob Elba, who was bestowed the distinction the year before.
Posting a picture of himself from 1995 next to a current snap of the “Luther” actor on Instagram, the Grammy-winner wrote, “1995 John would be very perplexed to be following 2018 @IdrisElba as #SexiestManAlive. Hell, 2019 John is about as equally perplexed but thank you @People for finding me sexy. I’ll take it.”

Teigen jumped in to give her hubby a vote of confidence as she retweeted Legend’s post and added, “Yeah but let’s see an
@idriselba pic from 1995 (prob still very hot).”
And, yep, she was right. Elba took her up on the request, sharing a smoldering photograph of himself around that year, proving he brought the hotness even way back then.
Teigen reposted Elba’s steamy throwback with an apology to Legend as she wrote, “sorry @JohnLegend, I tried!!!” adding a laughing emoji as well as a crying one.
Look, in our eyes, both Legend and Elba can rock the Sexiest Man Alive title in the past, present or future.
