Kristen Bell and Jimmy Fallon Sing History of Disney Songs

It was a little rough when Jimmy Fallon started in with the song Disney turned into the signature ditty for their entire empire, “When You Wish Upon a Star,” but Kristen Bell quickly brought the light and the vocal chops on a musical tour of Disney history for “The Tonight Show.”

In celebration of the launch of Disney+, which either is or will become the home for all of the properties featured, Bell and Fallon were clearly having a lot of fun working their way through the Disney catalog of musical classics, though their choices were decidedly picked mostly from the second Disney renaissance that kicked off with “The Little Mermaid.”

There was a little love for that “Pinocchio” classic, as well as “Mary Poppins,” “The Jungle Book” and “Snow White and the Seven Dwarves,” but this was clearly a love letter to the modern era of Disney animated films. Not to worry, Pixar’s stellar lineup was also well represented.

Of course, you could practically see the audience salivating in hopes that Bell would reprise one of her own songs from her work in “Frozen,” but it was Fallon who suddenly interrupted her take on “Colors of the Wind” with his earnest “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?”

We were getting serious “Glee” mashup vibes during this brief back-and-forth, which honestly would have been an even more fun way to explore the history of some of the most iconic and memorable sings in cinematic history.

They even had some fun props, bringing “Aladdin” to life and “Coco” to death. But mostly, it was a showcase for Bell’s amazing voice, which doesn’t get enough recognition or appreciation over her work as an actress. Seriously, this girl has got some pipes on her and they were in fine form tonight.

Meanwhile, Fallon might have pushed himself a bit too far on this one. His impressions were fun when he took on some of the more notable artists who’ve lent their voices to Disney’s films, but this wasn’t his best night.

Luckily, as he tried to nail a high not that was just out of reach, Bell was there to tell him to just “Let It Go.”
