Hollywood actress Sharon Stone is suing rapper Chanel West Coast for using her name dozens of times in a song called “Sharon Stoned.”
In the lawsuit, she accuses the rapper of trying to exploit her “extraordinary level of popularity and fame.”
“Sharon Stoned” was released back in 2018. According to THR, the first 30 seconds contain no words other than “Sharon” or “Stone(d),” and “Sharon Sharon Sharon Stone(d)” is repeated on loop several times throughout the song.
“During the Song, Defendant Dudley gratuitously repeats the name ‘Sharon Stone’ thirty-three times and the name ‘Sharon’ ninety-nine times,” states the complaint. Stone also believes that the video for the song is designed to evoke her persona.
Stone is suing for unfair competition and violations of her right of publicity. She is also seeking an injunction barring Chanel West Coast from using her name or image. As well as punitive damages, Stone is demanding disgorgement of any profits she has earned as a result of the song and video.
