Seth Meyers Added Button to Netflix Special To Skip Trump Jokes

Seth Meyers asked Netflix to create a button so viewers could skip his Trump jokes during his new comedy special, as the comedian thought people would be burned out by political punchlines.

Now “Lobby Baby” — debuting on the streaming giant on Tuesday — includes a feature to opt out of segments of Meyers’ stand-up routine. Think of it like the “skip intro” option at the beginning of some Netflix programs.

“It was a way to build in the response to anyone who would say, ‘Oh, let me guess there’s going to be jokes about the President,'” Meyers told CNN Business.

“It dawned on me that because it was on Netflix, there would be this opportunity to put in technology that would allow people to skip it,” he added.

In an email to the publication, Robbie Praw — Netflix’s director of original standup comedy programming — said Meyers approached them with the “clever idea” and “we’re thrilled he was able to take advantage of the Netflix experience in such a funny and innovative way.”

Trump and his administration have become fodder for late night talk shows since his election in 2016, with Meyers lambasting the White House during his “A Closer Look” segment on “Late Night with Seth Meyers.”

But Meyers practiced lampooning Trump long before the “Celebrity Apprentice” star became Commander-in-Chief. At the 2011 White House Correspondents’ Dinner, the “SNL” alum and President Obama skewered Trump who was sitting in the audience, which some speculated was the catalyst for the real estate mogul to seek the highest office in the land, as a form of pay back for being publicly ridiculed.

But how Trump made his way to the Oval Office is inconsequential now when it comes to stand-up comedy, as the quips continue to pour in, and Meyers is ready for more.

One such joke is the skip button on his special, as it’s not meant to be taken seriously, according to Meyers. And he’s confident viewers will watch “Lobby Baby” without using the feature.

“I think, look, sometimes at a fancy restaurant they’ll put parsley on your plate and you’ll think, well, that’s a nice touch, but you’re not going to eat the parsley.” he explained.
