Kelly Clarkson has put a spell on us with an epic performance of “I Put a Spell on You,” which she sang on her show while dressed exactly like Bette Midler’s Winifred Sanderson from “Hocus Pocus.”
But instead of singing the version made famous in the 1993 classic Halloween flick, the “American Idol” alum belted out the original mid-’50s blues hit by Screamin’ Jay Hawkins.
And we are all better for it.
Sashaying through her dark studio, accompanied by her “sister” witches from the film (originally played by Kathy Najimy and Sarah Jessica Parker) and surrounded by fog and creepy bellhop dancers, the “Kelly Clarkson Show” host hypnotized us with her powerhouse vocals and impeccable production.
What makes this all the more magical is that Clarkson and Midler have somewhat of a Twitter love affair going on.
Back in 2013 when Kelly released her Christmas album, “Wrapped in Red,” Bette sang the singer’s praises: “.@kelly_clarkson sings her heart out on ‘Wrapped in Red,’ new Xmas album…” A flattered Clarkson responded, “@BetteMidler I absolutely love you 🙂 For The Boys made me want to be on stage. You just made my night, thank you!”
