Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch Look Forward to ‘Superman & Lois’ CW Series

The “Arrowverse” continues to expand with yet another spinoff, this time featuring the biggest superhero in the DC Universe. And after the big “Superman & Lois” announcement, Tyler Hoechlin could not contain his excitement at bringing Superman to life in his own show after three years of appearances on “Supergirl.”

Fans got behind the project when it was still just a dream with the casting of Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane, completing the most famous couple in the history of superhero comics. Their chemistry in the “Elseworlds” crossover event cemented fans’ love for the actors and the characters.

Hoechlin had nothing but praise for his on-screen love, too, writing in an Instagram post celebrating the big news that he “couldn’t ask for a better partner.”

“I’ve already learned so much from her and I know that won’t stop anytime soon,” Hoechlin continued. But as for just what stories this new series will be looking to tell, Hoechlin would not say, instead calling it a “secret.”

He did, however, pay homage to Christopher Reeves, who defined the modern Superman in his classic film series. Noting a similarity in his expression to Reeves, Hoechlin said, “I Hope we make something he would be proud of.”

Tulloch jumped into the comments to share her co-stars enthusiasm, adding, “So excited, T!!!! I’m lucky you’re my partner on this journey. We have so much fun together.”

She also shared the news to her own Instagram page, offering a little more of a clue as to how the series begins. According to Tulloch, former “Flash” “showrunner Todd Helbing is writing SUCH a riveting, unique, and poignant story for us.”

“Superman & Lois” will be the first exploration of the journalist couple as parents, a newer development for their comic book counterparts as well. On the comics page, their son grew up to become Superboy, gaining the powers of his father around the onset of puberty as well.

Back in the ’90s, their relationship was explored in “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman,” while “Smallville” took another deep dive into the early years of their courtship. But young parenthood is a whole new ball game, and a whole new juggling challenge for the Man of Steel as he and Lois “deal with all the stress, pressures and complexities that come with being working parents in today’s society,” per TVLine.

And while the show would probably years away from having to deal with any sort of Superboy or even Superbaby issues, this is a superhero universe where time travel is on the table. Anything is possible.

Last seen heading off-planet to have their superbaby in last season’s “Elseworlds” crossover, both Hoechlin and Tulloch will be back as part of the upcoming “Crisis on Infinite Earths” event, which is promising to shake up the “Arrowverse” like we’ve never seen before. Could “Supergirl” be going away like “Arrow to make way for her cousin, or will they co-exist on The CW?

This news comes on the heels of word that “Arrow” is setting up its own spinoff as part of its final season, airing now on the network. “Green Arrow and the Canaries” will star “Arrow” regulars Katherine McNamara, Katie Cassidy Rodgers and Juliana Harkavy, with the possibility of other characters recurring or continuing as well.

In other words, The CW is staying all in on their growing “Arrowverse,” even as the parent series says goodbye. With “Black Lightning” confirmed as crossing over into the “Crisis” event — along with virtually every other DC series ever — it’s arguable to say that the DCW Universe is continuing to grow.

And with Superman now appearing on a full-time basis, is there any hope for Wonder Woman or Batman? Aquaman? Or are their film franchises too big for DC to dare allow them to appear on television? Okay, how about Green Lantern then? You know he and Green Arrow have history, right?

As “Arrow” says goodbye, its universe will live on in “The Flash,” “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow,” “Supergirl,” “Black Lightning” (maybe), “Batwoman,” “Green Arrow and the Canaries” and now “Superman & Lois.”

There is no word on when either of the latest spinoffs will debut on the network, but The CW is playing it very coy about anything coming after the “Crisis on Infinite Earths.” So while we’d normally say to look for them in the fall of 2020, we’re not so sure they’re not planning some huge surprises in the coming months..
