RHONJ’s Jackie Goldschneider Talks Teresa and Joe Giudice, Eating Disorder – New Season

Jackie Goldschneider does not regret speaking her mind to Teresa Giudice on her first season of “The Real Housewives of New Jersey.”

Jackie found herself at odds with the series OG, who was having an argument with her sister-in-law Melissa Gorga, when she said: “Do you think your husband would be in jail right now if you could control what he did?”

Now that the couple face potentially being apart forever due to deportation, Jackie told TooFab she feels a bit differently, though she doesn’t necessarily regret the comments she made “because I think that’s where I was at the time.”

“At the time, Teresa had been very cruel to me, so no matter what was going on in her personal life, I didn’t feel bad for her because she was taking it out on me,” Jackie told us. “At that time, that’s how I felt, but I wouldn’t say that’s how I feel anymore.”

At the time Joe was facing a possible deportation to Italy following his 41-month stay in federal prison for mail, wire and bank fraud. He is currently living in Italy as he waits for the courts to determine his fate, following his release from ICE.

Though Season 10 doesn’t premiere until next week, Goldschneider was able to let us know that viewers will get to see “part two of the story with me and Teresa this season.” She also revealed she was caught “very off guard” by something that happened early into filming and that it upset her “terribly.”

“I think that some of [the drama] will surprise you, and some of it was carry-over feelings,” she explained. “I think that it was clear the people who I connected to more than others, and I think that maybe some of those others tried to get under my skin sometimes. But you put strong women together, and they clash.”

“There’s definitely some surprising drama,” she added. “Some of it shocked me! I was very surprised. Something that I think you’ll see right at the beginning of the season caught me very off guard and upset me terribly.”

Aside from her issues with Teresa, the new season will also document Jackie’s ongoing struggles with eating disorders. She spoke about her battle with anorexia vaguely last season, but the supertease for this season showed a more raw depiction of it all.

In one scene in particular, Jackie was shown looking at photos from when she was younger and heavier. Her daughter and father were present, with her dad saying she was a “good inspiration to kids who are heavy.”

“Dad, I almost died,” Jackie replied, but her dad hit back with, “Look at you now! It’s almost worth it.” Her mouth dropped.

“Knowing my father, he obviously did not mean that anything was worth me dying,” Jackie told us of the remark. “I think what he meant was that he knew how much it upset me to be overweight, and I was significantly overweight, and he knows how good I feel in my skin now. So I think he was probably saying, ‘Whatever you had to go through was worth it.'”

“As an older man, I think it shows a real disconnect from what he understands about a young female’s body,” she continued. “I think it shows that a father maybe can’t fully understand what a young woman is going through, and I think that’s a larger issue today — in politics, in everything.”

“But I also think that the fact that my daughter was sitting right next to me also was a little upsetting,” she added. “I didn’t want her hearing that or ever thinking that, so it was a lot of feelings surrounding that conversation. A lot.”

Though she’s “a thousand times better” today than she was when she was “going through the worst of it” — around ages 26 to 36 — Goldschneider believes there is “always going to be a part of me that’s a little disordered when it comes to food. I still have a hard time gaining weight, I still have a hard time taking time off from exercise, I still restrict my eating once in a while. I used to just not eat. But you know, I don’t think it’s something that you’re ever fully over.”

“If you ever saw my wedding picture,” she went on, “I was in really, really bad shape at my wedding. I think I spent half of my wedding thinking about what I was eating, and I was not eating at the wedding. I mean, it was just terrible. It was all-consuming. And I lost a good amount of weight after that also. I don’t think I took very many pictures during that time.”

It wasn’t until her youngest kids were old enough to start noticing Mommy’s eating habits that Jackie decided enough was enough.

“I think my youngest children were already like 3 or 4 years old before I really started my recovery,” she said. “And that was sort of my push, when I realized that my eating habits were impacting them. That’s what really made me say, ‘This is it. This needs to be the end.'”

We asked if being on television has affected her body image, since many reality stars have reported that it does, but for Jackie, it was more about viewers’ comments concerning one particular aspect of her face.

“Since I recovered and since I learned to eat more regularly, in the past few years, I’ve also tried to be strong. I started lifting weights. I’ve really tried to eat more healthy, less preservatives, things like that. So I don’t think that being on camera affected the way that I felt about my body, but looks-wise, it definitely did,” she explained. “Seeing yourself back and also the online comments can really get inside your head, and you have to learn not to feed into what people say.”

“Last season, people had a lot to say about my lips. Oh, my goodness! They called me paper-cut lips!” Jackie told us. “And it got inside my head, and as soon as filming for Season 9 was over, I went and I got lips. I mean, I never even thought about it before; I always thought I had nice lips! But I got lips, and I’m actually really happy. They do look much better.”

Goldschneider said her go-to girl for advice on what to get done or not get done is always co-star Margaret Josephs, who got a face lift in between when Season 9 wrapped and the reunion was filmed.

“Any time I’m thinking of getting something done, I call her and I’m like, ‘Do you think I should get this?’ And she always is like, ‘Stop it right now. You’re beautiful!'” Jackie said. “Margaret is just the best, and she always reminds me that I’m beautiful and that I don’t need it and that I’m still on the young side and to not get carried away. You just have to learn to trust the people who love you and not the people who comment online.”

Regarding her overall feelings about the upcoming season, Goldschneider told us, “I think that there was a lot of drama, and I’m really proud of the way I handled myself and stood up for myself. And also I think that there’s a lot of good times, and you’ll see a lot of really strong friendships — legitimate, real friendships — and I think that’ll reflect, and people will be able to see that. I’m really proud of this season. I’m really excited for it.”

Season 10 of “The Real Housewives of New Jersey” premieres Wednesday, November 6 at 9 p.m. on Bravo.
