While no one is expecting Kylie Jenner to move on and find a new amour just yet, fans nevertheless were treated to an unexpected kiss on Saturday night, and it came courtesy of Kylie’s newest BFF Stassie Karanikolaou.
The pair were kicking it old school with their matching costumes, if you think of the iconic 2003 MTV Video Music Awards moment shared between Madonna and Britney Spears.
Kylie took the lead as the original “Material Girl” — and by damned if she didn’t do a fine job of capturing Madge’s look (makeup prowess for the win) — while Stassie was pretty in white as Britney (bitch!).
Dancing awkwardly to “Like a Virgin,” and proving that they’re not exactly like the pop princesses, Kylie made her way over to Stassie and threw her arm around her, at which point Stassie said, “Kiss me!”
Did Kylie know what that was referring to? She was, after all, only four years old when Madonna and Britney broke the nascent internet with the kiss seen ’round the world. It was a moment that would cement Britney’s status as the new queen of pop, and a bizarre passing of the torch from one generation to the next.
The two would subsequently appear together on Britney’s “Me Against the Music” later in the year and, of course, Madonna remains a force to be reckoned with in the music industry. There is probably a reason, after all, that Kylie went with that costume choice. Not to mention that she is legen-dary!
The kiss between Kylie and Stassie was, however, a far cry from the one Britney and Madonna delivered. While the 2003 moment was a powerful statement by two women at the peak of their power and strength, this was a quick peck by two giggly girls who can’t believe they just did that OMG and on camera too OMG should we post it we have to OMG can you believe it OMG!
At least they nailed the looks!
