ABC News reports that legendary broadcast journalist Cokie Roberts, known for her political commentary, has died at 75 of breast cancer. She had first been diagnosed with the disease in 2002.
Her death was confirmed by her family, who said in a statement, “We will miss Cokie beyond measure, both for her contributions and for her love and kindness.”
Born December 27, 1943, Roberts enjoyed a career as a political reporter for NPR and ABC News, on “Morning Edition,” “The MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour,” “World News Tonight,” and “This Week.”
She co-wrote a weekly syndicated column with her husband of over 50 years, Steven Roberts, and was active in nonprofits, including the Kaiser Family Foundation.
Roberts won the Edward R. Murrow Award, the Everett McKinley Dirksen Award, the Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Journalism, and an Emmy for her widely admired work.
She is survived by her husband and by their children, Rebecca Roberts and Lee Roberts.
