Larry King Hospitalized After Suffering Another Heart Attack

TV personality Larry King suffered another heart attack last week.

TMZ reports that King was getting ready to go to a hospital when he suffered cardiac arrest. He was planning to check himself in to undergo an angiogram after struggling to breathe for months.

The 85-year-old was rushed to a hospital, where doctors performed an angioplasty to open up an artery and insert stents.

He is currently resting in a cardiac intensive unit and is scheduled to be discharged later today.

A source told People magazine, “He is okay right now.”

Just a month before his heart attack, he was seen leaving a doctor’s office. He was reportedly seeing doctors for six months to figure out the cause of his breathing problems.

King suffered his first heart attack in 1987 in Washington D.C. He recently reflected to Media Planet, “I shouldn’t have been surprised, since I had been a heavy smoker for many years. At first I thought it was something else because the pain was on my right side — the right shoulder, but as soon as I took tests at the hospital, they confirmed I had just experienced a heart attack.”

He underwent a quintuple bypass surgery and changed his lifestyle. He added, “For a short time after the surgery, 10 months after the heart attack, I felt so good. I had more energy than ever; no pain. I never smoked again.” He continues, “I had a new desire to live; much more awareness of my heart and overall physical well-being.”

Larry seems to have a family history with heart issues. His father died of cardiac arrest at 46 when King was only 9.

Along with his work for the Larry King Cardiac Foundation, King has released two books about heart attacks, “Mr. King, You’re Having a Heart Attack” and “Taking on Heart Disease.”

Two years ago, King was diagnosed with stage 1 lung cancer and underwent surgery to have a malignant mass removed. He shared with People magazine, “They went in through my ribs with a tiny camera and snipped it out. I only had a little pain and some shortness of breath but once my speech is back full — and that took about a week — I went right back to work.”

He was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 1999.
