Why Jennifer Garner Was Nervous About Her Cover of People’s 2019 Beautiful Issue

Actress Jennifer Garner is gracing the cover of the coveted People’s 2019 Beautiful issue!

On Tuesday, Ellen DeGeneres revealed on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” that Garner nabbed the cover. Garner said, “That’s the first time I’ve seen it.”

She joked, “Do you think I should start really turning it up for school drop-off and stuff? I think I’ll maybe wear some yoga pants, some leggings, maybe a ponytail. Kind of a scrubby ‘just woke up’ or ‘just worked out’ look. I’ll start doing that!”

Garner was humble, admitting, “I’ve never been more nervous than I am today. I guess I thought you guys would boo. You know what I mean? Like you guys are expecting Kaia Gerber and it’s me. I feel like bolting.”

Garner is known for her megawatt smile, but what’s the most common compliment that she gets from fans? She revealed in the issue, “They tell me I’m prettier in person than I am on screen. You might as well see it for the compliment that they mean it to be. That happens, if I’m out and about, every day at some point. I don’t know what it is, but that is by far what I hear the most.”

While Garner’s beauty has grabbed Hollywood’s attention for nearly two decades, it wasn’t always part of her life. She explained about her “band geek-chic” days, “I was so not one of the pretty girls that I just bypassed insecurity and didn’t see myself as attractive at all. It was not part of my life.”

She emphasized, “Looks weren’t a big deal in my family. I don’t think my parents ever said ‘you’re pretty,’ and so we just didn’t think about it.”

As her kids’ views on her beauty, she shared, “I’ll feel like the best possible version of myself. They’ll look at me and say, ‘Can you wash your face? Can you put your hair in a ponytail and put your glasses and sweats on?’ And I see the compliment in that. They just want me to look like Mom.”

The Beautiful People issue hits newsstands Friday.
