Travis Scott Refuses To Talk About Politics Out Of Fear Of Criticism

(AllHipHop News) Travis Scott doesn’t air his views on political issues for fear of being misinterpreted.

The rapper opened up in an interview with hip-hop veteran Nas for Playboy’s Spring 2019 #TheSpeechIssue.
And unlike rapper Kanye West, who regularly shares his controversial political views, Travis, who is dating Kylie Jenner, the half-sister of Kanye’s wife Kim Kardashian, shies away from talking about his views on the political landscape as he fears they will be misinterpreted.

“I wouldn’t say I don’t feel compelled to speak on political issues; sometimes you just don’t want to speak too much on stuff you don’t know much about. It’s not like I’m not thinking about what’s going on in the world. I’m an expressive artist, but with media and s##t, it gets misconstrued,” he told Nas, adding that he’s still “figuring it out”.

In the wide-ranging chat, Travis cited Kid Cudi, who he worked with on Kanye’s The Life Of Pablo album and their own collab “Through The Late Night” for Travis’ 2016 Birds In The Trap Sing McKnight release, as one of his biggest inspirations.

“One of my idols is Kid Cudi and the way he tells his stories about how he felt as a kid growing up, like where he’s from,” he shared. “I related to that. I adopted my own form of storytelling —whether it’s through melodies or through raps or both.”

The multiple Grammy nominee has achieved huge success over the last few years, including joining the ranks of artists including Garth Brooks, The Grateful Dead, Janet Jackson, Lady Gaga, Sting and Michael Jackson, to sellout Los Angeles venue The Forum venue more than once in a 12-month period.

“When I started, I never thought I could do arenas and be so big that so many people would come listen to the music and know the words,” he smiled. “I think what makes a great artist is just the people you touch.”
