‘Us’ Star Lupita Nyong’o Discusses The Key Elements Of A Jordan Peele Movie

(AllHipHop News) Writer/director Jordan Peele’s highly anticipated Us hits theaters this Friday, March 22. With a current 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the Lupita Nyong’o-led film is already a critical success.

The New York City premiere of Us took place at The Museum of Modern Art on Tuesday. Nyong’o was one of the stars to walk the red carpet, and she was asked what she believes are the key elements of Peele film.

“Layers. Lots of visual, thematic goodies that he puts there, clues for the discerning eye,” offered the Academy Award winner. “Definitely repeat viewing [is] necessary in order to get it all in.”

She continued, “And a warped, mind-bending sense of horror. He really makes you think and then, of course, he makes you laugh as he scares the hell out of you.” Like 2017’s Get Out, Us is filled with creepy sequences as well as comedic moments.

Nyong’o is receiving rave reviews for her portrayal of Adelaide Wilson, a wife and mother haunted by an unresolved trauma from her childhood, and Adelaide’s bizarre Tethered doppelgänger known as Red. Winston Duke, Elisabeth Moss, Tim Heidecker, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Anna Diop, Evan Alex, and Shahadi Wright Joseph are also part of the cast.

Peele’s second directorial offering is expected to draw a larger opening box office gross than his first movie. Get Out made $33 million domestically in its first weekend. Us is tracking to bring in between $45 million and $50 million.

Get Out was the 15th highest grossing motion picture of 2017 with a $176 million total, and it went on to earn more than $255 million worldwide. Peele’s script also won an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay.
