HBO announces premiere date for Game of Thrones season 8

A couple months back, HBO announced that Game of Thrones season 8 would be airing in April of 2019. Tonight, they dropped a new teaser, and finally got specific. Watch below.

And there you have it. The final season of Game of Thrones will kick off on April 14, the second Sunday of the month. Here we go.

That’s pretty consistent with when new seasons of the show have aired in the past, stretching all the way back to the beginning. There have only been two exceptions: season 3 dropped on March 31, and season 7 began on July 16, a true outlier. For the final six episodes, we’re getting back to normal.

And yes, there are only six episodes this season, meaning the whole thing should wrap by May 19. But based on what we’ve heard, they are spectacular specimens. If you have plans in that six-week span, cancel them. It’s time to see how this all wraps up!
